When looking for a fence builder in your area, you probably have a lot of questions.

We hope this answers all of your questions! If not, please get in touch with us.

Fence Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of fences do you put up?

There are many various kinds we install. Aluminum, steel, composite, vinyl, cedar, pine, chain link, you name it!

  • What kinds of things do you use to build fences?

We can put up vinyl, metal, chain lin, steel, composite, and pressure treated pine fences. We use nails, rails, concrete, and posts to build the fences. Sometimes there are post caps and decorative toppers such as lattice included.

  • How tall can a fence be?

This all depends on your municipal code. From our experience, most Illinois towns don't allow any fence to be taller than 6' tall unless backed up to a major road or thoroughfare. These roads are often designated on the village website based on the amount of traffic and if they are considered "major" roads or not. Some towns, such as Schaumburg, only allow a maximum of 5' tall fences.

  • How close to my property line can I build a fence?

In most cases, you must build your new fence within 6" of your property line. This can often be stated in the municipal code itself. Building a fence along a property line is considered a "perimeter fence" so it needs to be close to the property line. Your fence CANNOT be over the property line on to a neighbor's property or public property.

  • How long does building a fence take?

It takes one to two days for most full yards. If the job is a partial installation, should just be 1 day. Sometimes it can take up to a week for larger projects and bad weather which causes unforeseen delays.

  • Could you give me a written quote for installing a fence?

Of course! The first thing we do is provide you an estimate over the phone. Then we send you an email with the details. If that price is agreeable we come meet with you in person and schedule the project with a deposit of 50%.

  • Can you tell me when the fence will be installed?

The actual process of installation takes 1-2 days on average. Most of the time, it takes 3-4 weeks from deposit to day of installation. Due to unforeseen circumstances and tasks out of our control, i.e. village approvals, weather, schedule, etc, we cannot give an exact day of installation upon deposit.

  • Are there any ways that the fence placement can be changed?

Yes absolutely. Provide a schematic or walk us through onsite where exactly you want the fence installed, we will be happy to install where you want it granted it is approved by the local governing authority.

  • How can you be sure that the fence construction follows the rules set by the local government?

We don't start any work until the permit is issued and in our hands.

  • Which fence is the least expensive to have put up?

Galvanized chain link fencing or pressure treated pine is the least expensive choice of fence material to have installed.

  • What does it cost to build a fence around your home?

There are alot of things to consider and think about such as length, material, height, and overall scope of the project. To find more about pricing, please visit our pricing page.

  • Which is better: a wood or PVC fence?

It really depends on how you want your fence to look, and what you need it to do. Do you need it to be strong and dense? Wood is a better choice. Are you more interested in upkeep and longevity? In those cases, vinyl is a better choice.

  • What does a fence made of PVC look like?

Vinyl fence, also called PVC fencing, looks like plastic, because it is. To see more photos of vinyl fencing we've installed, please visit our vinyl fence page or our photo gallery.

  • When is the least expensive time of year to put up a fence?

You can get the best deals in early Spring or late fall, before the winter. During these changing seasons, we often run promotions of new fence installations.

  • What kind of fence makes the house worth more?

The most valuable thing you can do for your home is have a new fence installed. Vinyl, composite, or stained wood would add the most value. Having said that, putting up a new fence in general will make the house worth more, especially compared to house that doesn't have a fence at all. Many families today have kids and/or dogs so the need for a fence is a crucial necessity, hence increasing the value of your home.

  • How can you tell if it's your fence or your neighbors?

Fences are built with rails, which are the horizontal tubes or boards, depending on the material. For instance a chain link fence has a horizontal top rail, while a wood fence has 2-3 horizontal rails. These horizontal rails should be facing towards your home if its your fence. The horizontal rails will face the neighbor's house, if the fence belongs to your neighbors.

  • What is the good neighbor fence law in Illinois?

Illinois Fence Law, or the "good neighbor law" states that any fence that shares a boundary, for instance a perimeter fence, with another neighbor, you are both responsible for maintainence of the fence. It also states that both neighbors must share in the responsibility of installation of a new fence. This applies to all counties in Illinois with less than 1 million population. What that means that it applies to all counties except Cook County. Read more here
