Meeting Time and Place

When:
Thursdays 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Where:
YWCA (Gymnasium) on Hershey Ave. north of Empire (Route 9)

Participants

We are currently accepting members 12 years or older. Members 12 to 15 years old need to have a parent or guardian attending unless otherwise approved by club officers. This is due to a liability restriction. Parents or guardians who want to observe but not participate are not required to pay fees. Members 12 to 17 years old must have written approval from a parent or guardian. Prospective members are welcome to drop in for a free session!

Central Illinois Sport Fencing (CISF) Membership

Membership in the YWCA is not required to participate in CISF. Membership in CISF will be by the month at the following rates (please note change in rates as of March 2007):

Standard:
$25 per month
Student:
$20 per month
Family:
Highest paying family member pays full dues, $5 off for each additional family member with a maximum of $45 per family per month

The club maintains liability insurance through the United States Fencing Association (USFA). Dues are used to cover insurance and facility costs, as well as acquire and maintain equipment for club members to use.

Equipment

All members are encouraged to purchase their own equipment. The club has a limited amount of equipment for rental by beginners and prospective members, although there may be limited availability when classes are in session. The first two months of rental, if needed, is free. After that it will be $25 per month in addition to club membership. Rentals are on-site only - equipment cannot be taken home.

We also have electrical scoring equipment anyone can use if they have the necessary electrical gear. All fencers must wear a minimum set of protective clothing, to include mask, jacket and glove. We encourage members to purchase a starter kit if they plan to continue fencing. These kits range from about $100 and up, and we can help with ordering!
